Join Reality Games: change the way you see life, yourself, and everything!

I’m inviting curious individuals to participate in Reality Games, a unique 29-day social experiment designed to perturb your reality ever so slightly in a fun and gentle way to expand the way you see yourself, others and the world.

What?

Reality Games is a 29-day social experiment in creative perception in which comedian Trevor Lock provides provides simple tasks and instructions designed to take a minimum of 10 minutes a day to complete. At the end of each week, participants meet online to share their experiences, discoveries and creations with Trevor and fellow participants.

The aim of Reality Games is to encourage individuals to do more of what they want and less of what they don’t want. This group experiment invites participants to make small, manageable changes to their daily routines, focusing on enhancing physical, mental, and emotional well-being to boost productivity and creativity. Participants connect with others from around the world fostering accountability, consistency and support.

The point is to have fun but it might also help you break free from old patterns and see life through fresh eyes, discover new perspectives and creative strategies, overcome procrastination, start and complete your existing projects, generate material for your own art practice and experience the joy of shared exploration and growth.

How do I join?

Fill out out the application form and you'll complete a short questionnaire. If accepted, you'll be placed in a group of between four to six people from around the world, meeting up online once a week for five consecutive weeks (e.g. every Saturday at 9 AM UK time).

After paying the subscription of £145 you'll be invited to the first meet-up. Here, you'll meet fellow participants and receive your daily instructions for the week. A messaging group will be created for sharing insights and experiences.

During the subsequent weekly meet-ups, you'll present your experiences with the help of prompts and easy questions. The group will exchange feedback and share experiences before receiving instructions for the next week.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world or simply begin. Maybe you feel stuck. Miserable. Burned out. Perhaps you just have a vague notion that something needs to shift, that you want to open the door to new possibilities. Perhaps you just want to feel less anxious. Whatever it is, Reality Games could provide you with the gentle nudge you need.

Each week I invite you to do some things you don’t normally do and to do some things that you do regularly do, but to do them a little bit differently. I might ask you to stop doing something. Sometimes it will, and should, feel a bit weird. Everyone participating gets the same instructions but because everyone is a unique individual, the outcomes are often varied. The aim is for everyone to share their perspectives in the weekly meet-up as if the group were a brain and individually each participant is a finger, an eye, an ear, relaying back its reality. The intention is to learn from and inspire one another in our explorations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it only for artists or people who want to be more creative?

No, it’s for anyone who wants to see themselves and the world through different eyes for a minimum 29 days. It’s like taking a holiday from your habitual self and life without actually having to go anywhere. The benefits in creativity are byproducts. It can also be for people who do have a particular goal, whether creative or not, such as living healthier, writing a book, people who want to do more of something in particular . Or less of something in particular.

How much time is it going to take realistically?

The minimum amount of time is 10 mins a day in total. Plus one day when you might want to spend a minimum of 15 extra mins preparing your weekly report to the group. But you can get carried away and spend hours on it if you like.

When does the experiment start?

It’s a rolling experiment with groups starting all the time whenever we have enough new people who can commit to the same time and the same 29 day block. Impatient people start immediately and go it alone and do the 29 days one-to-one with just me - which has its pros and cons. It’s more expensive (£245 instead of £145) and you’re not engaging with as many other people but instead you get me to yourself and obviously the 29 days are all about you.

Why is it so cheap?

I love sharing Reality Games and I want as many people to do be able to experience it as possible and luckily it is not how I earn a living.

Why do you charge money to participate?

I have learned that if I don’t charge a participation fee the quality of participation falls off a cliff and the rewards for myself and the participants are greatly diminished. Ideally the fee would be means tested so that everyone pays according to their circumstances so if it feels cheap to you then I suggest you pay a little more to ensure you get the most out of it.

How long are the weekly online meet-ups?

A maximum of 2 hours for the largest groups of five or six people. 30 mins is usually more than enough if you’re doing it one-to-one with Trevor.

Who will be in the groups?

Humans. From anywhere. Strangers! If you want to do it with friends or colleagues then that’s who’ll be in your group! I try to keep the groups small, always a maximum of 6. If you join on your own or with just one friend I’ll put you in a group with other humans from anywhere in the world who are also available at the same time and on the same day you are. If you want to do it one-on-one then I’ll be the only one in your group.

What if I miss a day or can’t make a weekly meetup?

You’ll have access to the video of the meet-up and you’ll receive the new instructions so it’s not the end of the world but you’ll lose points in the competition part of the program although there are ways to make those up on other days so it’s not a deal breaker.

Can I join from anywhere?

Yes, one day an astronaut will do it! You just need to be online once a week at the same time as the others. So in a multinational group some people might have just woken up, others may be about to go to bed and some will be about get lunch depending on where in the world they’re based.

What is an example of an instruction or reality game?

I prefer to keep those a secret to create maximum impact but they are simple things that anyone will be capable of doing. Some instructions you may have heard of or even tried before, others are likely to be brand new. Some focus on mind, some on heart, some on the body. All are optional! It’s not an actual boot camp! I don’t know where you live. They are as challenging as you want them to be. The only way you can fail is by not turning up to the weekly meet-ups.

Why is it called an experiment and not a personal development or creativity workshop?

Each of us is unique and I want to highlight the Reality Games focus on personal discovery and exploration and the possibility of unique and unforeseen outcomes. The program is adaptable, flexible and open to feedback. It’s collaborative with participants encouraged to give and receive feedback from each other. Most of all it’s fun and playful, participants are encouraged to engage, take risks, and explore their creativity in a dynamic, emergent way that is open to any and all outcomes.

I don’t like the sound of at the weekly “report” to the group. Sounds like homework.

Think of it more as a themed chat with friends. Most people look forward to this part and find the sharing and responding to everyone else’s sharings one of the best things about Reality Games.

Can I take part in Reality Games again?

Yes, apparently it’s even better the second time!

What is new about Reality Games in 2025?

It’s now customisable so that someone can incorporate a personal goal into the 29 day program - learning a language, getting fit, becoming more mindful, or writing a 20 minute stand up can all be built in to Reality Games. The Holladeck anonymous chat room is a new addition that provides a safe anonymous chat space for sharing and supporting fellow participants.

I have a different question that’s not here, can I ask you about it?

The Story

Reality Games was conceived by comedian Trevor Lock during the lockdowns of 2020 when he started coaching comedians in his Joke Hospital workshops.

Part school headmaster, part genius funnyman, he sees the funny where you don't and eeks it out of you, arming you with fantastic tools for the rest of your career.’  Aideen McQueen, Dublin

“I noticed that offering comics short bits of weekly homework in a supportive and collaborative group setting where everyone was encouraged to give feedback had a disproportionate positive result on their productivity and creativity and I wondered if I could replicate some of this feel good, increased productivity and creativity to a group of normal people who weren’t necessarily trying to write jokes but who just wanted to get more out of life.

Things ran away with themselves and before I could say “I’ve come up with something completely different to what I intended” I’d collated all the techniques and strategies that I’d found usefull during various periods of mental health issues and creative blocks, from all eras and areas of my little life, some of them quite unconventional and bizarre and asked myself, ‘if they’ve been fun and even useful to me, could they also be fun and useful to anyone else?’ That was my experiment.

I put out a call on social media for participants and over 60 people ended up participating from all over the world; all ages, different backgrounds, careers and aspirations. The results have been overwhelmingly positive as you can read from the testimonials.

Without giving away the content of the instructions, the core of Reality Games is to pay attention to and exercise the mind, body and heart to open up new possibilities and connections.

What you end up doing with these new possibilities and connections is up to you and indeed cannot be predicted.”
